A man from my neighbourhood got kidnapped over the weekend, what can me and my husband do to ensure our safety?

Over the weekend, a 22 year old got kidnapped at gunshot by 3 men. It happened close to our condo and the man lives 2 buildings down from us. We are dumbfounded. What can my husband and I do to stay safe?

I certainly wouldn’t worry about it. It seems every time someone is reported to be kidnapped, there is more to the story. This 22 year for example was recently charged with theft, and has possibly fled the country (he had planned on taking a trip out of the country on the day he disappeared).

Last month, a lady from New Brunswick claimed to have been ordered at gunpoint to drive someone to Toronto. She admitted to police that she in fact made the story up, and is facing charges as a result.
