what is the ending in the book “tom’s midnight garden”?

My teacher gave it to me at the end of last year. I’ve started reading it and I think it is really obvious of what the ending is, but I want to make sure… so what is it?

cant remember if this is right but i think –

tom is about to go back home then he realises that the girl in the garden is that old woman downstairs. And they hug. And his aunt and uncle stand there thinking what the hell?
